100 years of Jazz in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Land of Jazz & Improvised Musics, land of unity-diversity !
15:30
French-speaking meeting open to the public upon inscription.
The event will showcase previously unpublished photographs digitized during an initial phase of collection from archives and private individuals. These images will be supplemented by accounts of experiences and other expert testimonies that will mark out a century of Jazz, from the first American ensembles arriving in our spa towns on leave, to the arrival of swing balls, the creation of the Hot de Lyon, through to the free and then contemporary periods.
A panel of enthusiasts with complementary backgrounds will evoke the evolution of this music, which today irrigates all the territories of our region, and which has enabled us to shake up contemporary musical creation and the relationship with creation. We’ll be looking in particular at the contribution of new instruments, the relationship with improvisation, the links with traditional, scholarly and contemporary music, and of course the way in which the spirit of jazz has fostered, in the AURA region, the emancipation of a libertarian, anti-establishment spirit, open to a world of music that makes our region one of the most fertile in Europe in terms of musical creation and distribution.
