[Young Audience] Nefertiti
15:00
What is Nefertiti?
Nefertiti is an illustrated, poetic family concert based on the mythical figure of ancient Egypt, written and performed musically by Collectif Koa, enlivened by illustrations by Olivier Bonhomme, and staged by Daniel Fayet. Two voice-overs punctuate the musical repertoire and provide the narrative framework. The mysterious life of the Queen of Egypt, a major female figure of Antiquity, is evoked, giving free rein to everyone’s imagination. Then, through the eyes of the royal sculptor Thoutmôsis, we question the way in which Nefertiti’s beauty is represented, sublimated and engraved in time, thus questioning the artist’s position when creating a work of art.
How did the Nefertiti project come about?
Nefertiti, one of the earliest female historical figures of note, was born in the time of the Pharaohs over 1300 years BC. Her legendary beauty has stood the test of time, thanks to the famous bust sculpted by Thoutmôsis, a veritable masterpiece of Egyptian antiquity, now in Berlin’s Neues Museum. Her reign at the side of the powerful Pharaoh Akhenaten and her mysterious disappearance have made her a subject of artistic and musical inspiration that has stood the test of time, to the point of inspiring jazzmen Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter to make a record bearing her name. In the midst of conceiving a project aimed at young audiences, the 4 artists of Collectif Koa came up with a musical and poetic vision based on this female icon, which has both a historical and an artistic dimension.
